    ESSENTIAL FATTY ACID

A healthy diet should include a balance of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. Regrettably, modern diets often contain unhealthy levels of omega-6 fatty acids that lead to an unhealthy fatty acid ratio grossly in favor of omega-6 fatty acids—as high as 30:1. Increasing dietary intake of omega-3 fatty acids while reducing omega-6 intake will help restore a healthy fatty acid ratio.

Nutritional scientists recommend increasing daily consumption of omega-3 fatty acids to restore a healthy balance of fatty acids in the body. However, fresh sources of fish are not always available to consumers (and farmed fish are lower in omega-3s). Additionally, there is a growing concern regarding the high levels of toxins and heavy metals present in the fish populations from which the world’s fish markets are supplied. Health professionals have even recommended that at-risk populations, such as women during pregnancy, should not consume certain types of fish.

    SCIENTIFIC SUPPORT

Clinical studies have shown that omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil and krill oil:

    • Support cardiovascular health. Epidemiological and clinical trials have shown that omega-3 fatty acids reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease (Kris-Etherton 2002, Connor 1997).
    • Decrease pain and tenderness in joint stiffness (Simopoulos 1991; Kremer 1996; Kremer & Robinson 1991; Kremer et al 1987).
    • May be effective in protection against UV-induced skin damage, cancers, and photoaging (Rhodes et al 2003; Rhodes et al 1995; Rhodes et al 1994, Jackson 2002; Boelsma et al 2001).
    • Promote normal DHA content in the brain, supporting mental capacity and mental health. The ratio of membrane omega-3 to omega-6 can be modulated by dietary intake, and this ratio influences neurotransmission and prostaglandin formation, processes that are vital in the maintenance of normal brain function (Haag 2003).
  • Who should take this product?

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential nutrients required by the body; therefore, Marine Omega has been formulated to be combined with LifePak® to provide a broad range of benefits. Those who consume a high proportion of vegetable oils or fried foods, and a low proportion of fish should consider supplementing with omega-3 fatty acids to balance their fatty acid nutrition. Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to support cardiovascular, immune, and joint health.

Is Marine Omega good for nursing mothers?

Since the omega-3 fatty acids are naturally found in fish, they are safe for anyone, including pregnant women. However, we are required to recommend that pregnant or lactating women consult with their physician about taking any supplements.

Is Marine Omega safe for children?

Consumption of omega-3 fatty acids has been studied extensively in children and adults and found safe at recommended levels. Marine Omega is safe and effective daily sources of omega-3 fatty acids for children age 2 and older. For children who cannot swallow, mix fish oil with food or drink.

What is the competitive advantage of Marine Omega over cod liver oil?

With cod liver oil, or any other liver oil, it is extremely important to take caution for two reasons. First, the fish liver is the filtering organ, so accumulation of toxins and heavy metals are more apparent. Secondly, cod liver oil often contains high vitamin A and D, so toxic levels of these vitamins can pose a threat. The constituents in Marine Omega are concentrated through scientific and analytical methods in a sterile environment to ensure that every capsule contains the prescribed level of constituents, every time. Other routine testing includes heavy metal content, full microbial testing and residual solvent. The marine lipid concentrate is tested to ensure that the source is free of any contamination.

What is the highest level of fish oils one could take?

Common dosages of fish oil will range from 3 to 9 g daily. There is no official upper limit, as studies have used much higher levels. One trial used 60 g fish oil daily on subjects who saw no side effects. Marine Omega contains up to 4 g marine lipid concentrate per day (if taking 2 softgels twice daily).

    What is krill?

Euphasia pacifica, commonly known as Krill, are small shrimp or prawn-like crustaceans found in oceans off the West coast of Vancouver Island, Russia, Ukraine, Antarctica, and Japan. Amazingly, Krill is the most abundant biomass in the world, with less than 1% of the resources harvested each year. Krill live most of the year at the bottom of the ocean, coming to the surface to feed on algae for only three months of the year. The consumption of algae dramatically increases Krill's omega-3 content. Krill are a primary nutrition source for whales, fish, sea birds and are considered a delicacy in Japan.

Krill oil offers an ideal ratio of omega-3:omega-6 at approximately 15:1. Krill oil contain astaxanthin which has been shown to be up to 550 times more powerful than vitamin E (Shimidzu 1996; Di Mascio 1990). Krill oil naturally contains 40% phospholipids, while most fish oil sources do not provide any phospholipids.
